UPH Strengthens Disability Support with Mentoring and Individualized Aid<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n

TANGERANG, 2024<\/strong> \u2013 Universitas Pelita Harapan is enhancing its support for students with disabilities through targeted mentoring programs and individualized accommodations, ensuring an inclusive educational environment for all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The university provides a multi-layered support system that includes academic and non-academic guidance. Each student is assigned an academic advisor to provide scholastic direction and mentorship. Additionally, the Student Life department offers another layer of support, helping students navigate campus life and addressing their specific non-academic needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A notable example of this comprehensive support is the case of a student at the Teacher\u2019s College who, after an accident, required a prosthetic leg. The university facilitated a collaboration with Hyundai\u2019s Roda Kebaikan program, resulting in the acquisition of a prosthetic leg and enabling him to continue his studies without physical constraints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The support from my academic advisor has been invaluable. They helped me rearrange my schedule to accommodate my therapy sessions without falling behind in my studies,” the student explained. “UPH’s mentoring has also been super supportive. My Student Life mentor regularly checks in with me to see if there are any challenges I’m facing on campus.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added, \u201cIt\u2019s not just about the financial and physical assistance, but the constant encouragement from the mentors that has made a huge difference in my university life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This case-by-case approach begins with a request from a student, which is then handled by the head of the relevant department. They coordinate the necessary arrangements, from physical aids to academic adjustments, and disseminate the information to faculty members to ensure a supportive classroom environment. This framework is part of a broader university policy to make all its activities accessible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
