UPH’s Commitment to Lifelong Learning: Expanding Access Beyond the Campus Community
TANGERANG, 2023 – In supporting and affirming to the universal commitment to lifelong learning, Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) continues to develop its educational innovation, especially in its access. In this case, UPH does not just limited their educational resources to formal education in campus, but further extends its outreach to the locals.
Publicly Available Online Resources
Education at Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) is not confined within classroom walls. The university embraces a lifelong learning philosophy, ensuring that people outside the institution also benefit from its wealth of knowledge, facilities, and community outreach. Through a range of initiatives, UPH ensures that educational resources, training, and facilities are made accessible to diverse communities, reinforcing its vision of education as a shared public good.
In line with the aforementioned commitment for lifelong learning, UPH provides free access to educational resources for those not studying at the university. Various courses are available for the public such as Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian Language), Business and Technology, Law, Computer Science, Nursing, Communication, Political Science, and many others.
The topics reflect UPH’s diverse academic strengths and are coordinated by the UPH Centre of Teaching and Learning (CTL). Upon completion, participants receive official certificates, giving recognition that supports both professional and personal development. UPH also extends its reach through free online learning platforms such as the Indonesia Cyber Education Institute (ICE) Online Course (https://icei.ac.id/partner/UPHx/courses/) and EduHub UPH (EduHub) (https://eduhub.uph.edu/). These platforms offer a large amount of various free, self-paced, certified courses across multiple disciplines, accessible to anyone, anytime. To date, thousands of learners outside the university have benefited from these programs, further strengthening UPH’s role as a driv er of democratized education.

The free online resources offered by UPH can be accessed using learn.uph.edu, an LMS (Learning Management System) of UPH. The system can also be used by the public who take the online free courses as long as they register themselves. The policy regarding this, is written in the document of Micro-Credential Regulation which is available as well for the public.

Community Services in Supporting Lifelong Learning
Aside from that, UPH regularly holds community service projects (PKM) designed specifically for individuals who are not formally enrolled at the university. These programs, delivered by the Center for Teaching & Learning (CTL), faculties, and the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), offer participants valuable knowledge and practical skills that can be applied in professional, community, and personal contexts. A concrete example of UPH’s outreach is the PkM conducted to accelerating sustainable development through community Outreach and Training with the Sumba Community in Greater Jakarta”,
The program focused on accelerating sustainable development through community outreach and training, specifically addressing issues of human trafficking prevention. Activities included hybrid seminars, sarasehan (community dialogues), and a community bazaar hosted in Plaza Semanggi, where small businesses and households from the Sumba diaspora showcased their products free of charge. This initiative empowered marginalized groups, enhanced their economic resilience, and provided practical knowledge to reduce vulnerability to trafficking. By targeting non-university participants, the PkM became a tangible model of lifelong learning, extending the university’s resources and expertise to communities in need.
UPH Extends Library Access to the Wider Community
The Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) Library supports inclusive and lifelong learning by providing access not only to students and staff but also to the broader community through its special membership program. Beyond automatic access for active students, faculty, and staff, the library welcomes alumni, Lippo Karawaci residents, and Lippo Group corporate members, and public community, including institutions under the Yayasan Pelita Harapan network. Through these extended memberships, the UPH Library serves as a shared academic resource that fosters continuous education and community engagement. This open access approach promotes lifelong learning opportunities, enabling individuals beyond the university to benefit from academic materials, research facilities, and digital resources that encourage personal and professional growth.

Through these initiatives, spanning free courses, and open online resources, UPH demonstrates its dedication to creating an inclusive and supportive learning ecosystem. By bridging the gap between higher education and the wider public, UPH plays an active role in nurturing a culture of lifelong learning that resonates at local, national, and even global levels.
