UPH Expands Dedicated Sustainability Education through Specialised Degrees and Courses
Beyond integrating SDGs into the curriculum, specifically, UPH strengthens sustainability education by providing dedicated academic programmes and courses that directly address sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These offerings range from full degree programmes specialising in sustainability to interdisciplinary courses and sustainability-focused subjects embedded across different fields of study.
UPH offers dedicated degree pathways that position sustainability as a central area of academic study. These include the Master of Sustainable Tourism Entrepreneurship, whose 1.5-year curriculum includes Sustainable Tourism Innovation, Sustainable Tourism Management, and Sustainable Business in Hospitality and Tourism; the Bachelor of Green Economy & Sustainable Business, a 3.5-year programme focused on sustainability, social value, and green and sustainable business strategies; and the Bachelor of Sustainability Management and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), which prepares students to assess, report, and manage environmental, social, and governance impacts while aligning business objectives with sustainable development.
Together, these programmes provide students with opportunities to pursue sustainability as a dedicated field of higher education, rather than only as a component of their disciplinary studies.
Dedicated and Interdisciplinary Sustainability Courses
UPH also provides courses specifically centred on sustainability. Sustainable Entrepreneurship, for example, is an interdisciplinary undergraduate course exploring how entrepreneurial ventures can address environmental and social challenges while creating economic value. Its curriculum covers sustainability concepts, ethics, sustainable and green business, innovation, and sustainable entrepreneurship.
The university’s course mapping further demonstrates dedicated sustainability content across disciplines. Examples include Inovasi & Keberlanjutan Pariwisata in the Master’s Tourism programme, Gastronomi Berkelanjutan, and Sustainability Business Strategy, which address sustainable tourism, responsible business, and sustainability-orientated management, respectively.
Sustainability is also addressed through disciplines such as architecture. Courses including Kesejahteraan Arsitektur Kota connect innovation and infrastructure development with sustainable cities, supporting SDGs 9 and 11.
These dedicated offerings are complemented by a broader portfolio of SDG-related courses. 30.92% of UPH’s courses are mapped to sustainability and the SDGs, enabling students across different academic fields to engage with sustainable development through their respective disciplines. Examples include Innovative and Sustainable Tourism, focusing on sustainable tourist cities; Community Health in the D3 Pharmacy programme, addressing community health and well-being; and Global Marketing in the Bachelor of Management programme, connecting global cooperation and collective action with sustainable development.
Through this combination of dedicated sustainability degrees, specialized and interdisciplinary courses, and broad SDG-related learning across disciplines, UPH provides multiple pathways for students to study and apply sustainability. Sustainability is therefore offered not only as a university-wide principle, but also as a specific field of academic specialization and course-level study across tourism, business, entrepreneurship, ESG, architecture, health, and other disciplines.
