Graduates

In Indonesia, all graduates who have completed a Bachelor’s degree (Sarjana) automatically gain a qualification that allows them to teach at least at the primary school level. This eligibility is recognized under national education standards, where a bachelor’s degree is considered the minimum academic requirement for teaching positions in formal education. While graduates may still need to fulfill additional certification or pedagogical training to become professional teachers, holding a Sarjana degree itself signifies that they possess the foundational academic qualification to teach in primary schools or equivalent educational settings.

Public Resources (Lifelong Learning)

Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) demonstrates its commitment to lifelong learning and poverty reduction by making education publicly accessible through free online courses, open resources, and community training programs. Through platforms like EduHub and ICE Institute, UPH offers certified courses across diverse disciplines, while its community outreach initiatives equip marginalized groups with skills for sustainable livelihoods. By extending access to educational resources and library services beyond the campus, UPH reinforces its mission to democratize knowledge and empower communities through inclusive, lifelong education.

These events, delivered both onsite and online, are open to the general public and often feature collaboration with national and international institutions, reflecting UPH’s role as a hub for thought leadership. UPH also focuses on empowering young people through these events, for youth is an important part of education and the future of our country.

Through these initiatives, UPH not only reinforces its academic excellence but also fulfills its broader social mission, ensuring that education is not confined within the walls of the university, but shared widely as a public good and especially the youths.

Education Outreach Activities Beyond Campus

Across Indonesia, access to education and professional knowledge often relies on partnerships with universities that are willing to extend their resources beyond the classroom. At Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH), this commitment is realized through education outreach initiatives known as Community Services. These activities are designed to connect academic expertise with the needs of local communities, offering practical solutions to real problems. Guided by faculty members and involving active student participation, the programs are funded through a mix of university resources, external support, or contributions from lecturers and students themselves.

Between August 2023 to July 2024, a total of 406 Community Service programs were executed, coordinated by the Centre of Research and Community Service (LPPM). Each project was tailored to the strengths of UPH’s faculties and addressed specific community challenges. For example, the Faculty of Nursing organized Edukasi Kesehatan tentang Pola Hidup Sehat dan SADARI in July 2024 to promote healthy lifestyles and breast self-examination awareness. In June 2024, the Faculty of Psychology facilitated a workshop on Basic Crisis Counseling Techniques for health and pastoral care teams at GKI Gejayan, Yogyakarta. Similarly, in November 2023, the Faculty of Tourism delivered training on Hygiene and Sanitation for culinary entrepreneurs in the Paloh Naga Tourism Village, Deli Serdang.

Mari Membaca 8 – Satu Halaman untuk Sejuta Impian

Adding to these efforts, the Service Learning Community (SLC) launched Mari Membaca 8 at SDN 1 Cibugel on April 27, May 8, and May 10, 2024. Carrying the theme “Satu Halaman untuk Sejuta Impian”, the program sought to nurture children’s literacy and cultural appreciation. Activities included reading sessions, storytelling, cultural performances, a batik coloring competition, and interactive educational games. Beyond engaging students, the program also featured a seminar for teachers on creative teaching methods and the painting of cultural murals to create a more inspiring school environment. Through these activities, more than 200 elementary school students and their teachers experienced a holistic approach to learning that combined literacy, creativity, and cultural values.

By bringing education beyond the campus, UPH strengthens its role as a partner in community empowerment. These initiatives cultivate vocational and lifelong learning skills among students while offering meaningful contributions to society.

Lifelong Learning Access Policy

The Regulation Against Discrimination at Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) establishes a zero-tolerance policy toward any form of discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, religion, race, culture, or minority affiliation. It mandates all members of the academic community to actively prevent, report, and take firm action against discriminatory behavior while guaranteeing protection and confidentiality for whistleblowers. This regulation supports lifelong learning by ensuring an inclusive, safe, and equitable educational environment where all individuals—regardless of background—can freely access opportunities for learning, growth, and participation throughout their lives.

Additionally, UPH also portrays its commitment towards lifelong learning in Rector Regulation No. 002 of 2020 regarding the Educational Framework of Universitas Pelita Harapan in Part III, regarding how Program Learning Outcomes should always support student lifelong learning.
