UPH Employee Cooperative Serves as
Collective Voice for Staff

TANGERANG, 2024 – The employee cooperative at Universitas Pelita Harapan, known as KOPKAR, has been established as an organization to represent the collective interests of its workforce. As of May 2024, the cooperative counts 709 of the university’s 1264 employees as members, constituting 56% of the total staff. (See members database)
The cooperative’s primary purpose is to protect and advance employee rights, working conditions, and benefits through collective representation and dialogue with the university’s management. It provides a formal platform for staff to voice their concerns and contribute to institutional governance.
To ensure member participation in its direction, KOPKAR holds regular bi-monthly and annual meetings. These forums grant all members the right to vote on the cooperative’s policies and future ventures, ensuring that its actions are democratically aligned with the broader goal of improving employee welfare.
One of the ventures initiated through this collective process is a meal shop on campus. Managed on a rotational basis by its members, the shop generates profits that are distributed among all participants. This initiative serves as a direct mechanism to enhance the economic well-being of the employees, reflecting the cooperative’s commitment to creating tangible benefits for its members.
