UPH Paternity Policy
Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) upholds its commitment to gender equality and family-friendly workplace policies through the implementation of inclusive maternity and paternity leave regulations. These policies are formally outlined in the UPH Foundation Company Regulations 2023–2025 concerning maternity leave and paternity leave with inclusive pay. According to Article 23, male employees are entitled to two days of paid paternity leave to accompany and support their spouses during childbirth. The same provision also applies when an employee’s wife experiences a miscarriage, enabling employees to provide support to their spouses during significant family and reproductive health circumstances.
Other than childbirth paternity rights, UPH also provides additional leave rights for paternal duties such as, but not limited to, child baptism (1 day) and bereavement (3 days) (Art. 20). Additionally, permission to leave the office without salary cuts is permissible for paternal duties (Art. 23) such as career day, dropping off and picking kids up from school, and progress report day.
Further reinforcement of these rights is provided through the Circular Letter on Employee Rights at Universitas Pelita Harapan (No. 244A/R-UPH/VIII/2022), which reiterates the protection and fulfilment of employee leave entitlements under Point 4. The policy framework enables male employees to participate in family responsibilities while maintaining their employment rights.
Through these provisions, UPH demonstrates its commitment to family-friendly and equitable employment practices, recognising that both male and female employees have responsibilities within their families. By providing paid paternity leave, UPH supports employees in accompanying their spouses during childbirth or pregnancy loss while promoting a supportive, inclusive, and non-discriminatory workplace environment.
