UPH Recognizes and Supports Independent Student Representation Through Student Organizations

TANGERANG – Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) strongly upholds the value of student leadership and democratic representation, recognizing the importance of empowering students as future leaders who contribute meaningfully to society. To cultivate these values, UPH provides a comprehensive platform for students to develop leadership skills through independent and self-governed student organizations.
At the university level, UPH formally recognizes the Student Executive Board (Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa – BEM) and the Student Representative Council (Majelis Perwakilan Mahasiswa – MPM) as independent student bodies that represent the collective voice of the student community. The BEM serves as the executive arm responsible for implementing student-led programs and initiatives, while the MPM functions as the legislative body that ensures accountability, transparency, and oversight. Both organizations operate independently, with leaders elected democratically through the UPH Election Commission (Komisi Pemilihan Umum – KPU UPH).
Beyond the central level, student representation also extends to every faculty and department through Student Associations (Himpunan Mahasiswa Fakultas – HMF and Himpunan Mahasiswa Program Studi – HMPS). These associations address the academic and organizational needs of their respective student communities while maintaining coordination with BEM and MPM at the institutional level.
The spirit of student democracy and leadership development is further strengthened through initiatives such as the Student Leaders Appreciation & Inauguration event organized annually by the Student Life Department. In the 2023 ceremony, over 1,000 student leaders from 67 organizations were inaugurated, reflecting UPH’s commitment to nurturing capable, ethical, and service-oriented leaders.
Through these structures and programs, UPH demonstrates clear recognition and support of independent student representation, ensuring that students have the freedom and institutional backing to voice their aspirations, engage in decision-making, and lead initiatives that contribute to the university’s continuous growth and impact.
