Current Collaborations with Health Institutions

Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) has established itself as a transformative institution in healthcare education and practice, advancing health and well-being through strategic collaborations at the global, national, and local levels.

UPH International Collaboration with OTTO Health Care in the Netherlands

UPH has extended its commitment to health and well-being onto the global stage through strategic partnerships that empower its graduates to thrive in international contexts. One prominent collaboration is with OTTO Health Care in the Netherlands, formalized through the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) on March 10, 2023, at UPH’s Lippo Village campus. This partnership establishes an International Placement Program for UPH Faculty of Nursing (FoN) graduates, enabling them to work and upskill abroad while addressing the current shortage of nurses in the Dutch healthcare system.

As part of their preparation, participating nurses have been undertaking intensive Dutch language training at the Erasmus Training Centre since October 2023. The initiative represents a circular migration scheme designed to create mutual benefits: UPH nurses gain invaluable international exposure and advanced clinical skills, while the Netherlands receives much-needed professional support. Upon completing their placements, these nurses are required to return to Indonesia, where they contribute to strengthening national healthcare capacities with global competencies.

Leaders from both institutions, Dr. Stephanie Riady, Executive Director of Yayasan Pendidikan Pelita Harapan, and Mr. Frank van Gool, CEO of OTTO Health Care, highlighted the shared values of innovation and forward-thinking that underpin this collaboration. The program is further strengthened by the involvement of ETZ Hospital and HMC Hospital in the Netherlands, which ensures that UPH graduates are immersed in cutting-edge healthcare systems before returning to Indonesia as agents of positive change.

UPH and Siloam Hospital Groups Long-standing Partnership

At the national level, UPH, particularly through its Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, and Faculty of Nursing, has cultivated strong partnerships with both private and public health institutions across Indonesia. A flagship collaboration is with PT Siloam Hospitals International, Tbk, one of the largest healthcare networks in the country. Through this partnership, UPH not only enhances the training and education of its students but also supports nationwide initiatives such as sending doctors and healthcare professionals to underserved and remote areas. These programs bridge the gap in healthcare access while simultaneously offering UPH students and faculty opportunities to engage in real-world service and research. Beyond clinical deployment, UPH faculties also engage in joint research projects and community service programs, ranging from preventive health campaigns and mobile clinics to collaborative public health training with government agencies. These national engagements position UPH as a driver of health education innovation and a key contributor to Indonesia’s healthcare development.

UPH Collaboration with Local Hospitals Nearby

Locally, UPH ensures that its impact is immediately felt by its surrounding communities. Collaborations with Siloam Hospital Kelapa Dua, Siloam Clinics, and nearby Puskesmas provide hands-on training sites for students and accessible healthcare services for staff and the public. Through these partnerships, UPH students gain direct exposure to patient care and health promotion activities, such as free medical check-ups, nutrition education, and preventive health campaigns. Furthermore, UPH works with Siloam Clinics to provide healthcare services to its own academic community, ensuring that both staff and students benefit from comprehensive health support. These initiatives underscore UPH’s holistic approach: integrating education, service, and community outreach to build a healthier society from the local level upward.

Health Outreach Programmes

Supporting the call for community health outreach, Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) reaffirmed its commitment to promoting health and well-being through collaborative initiatives that integrate education, prevention, and community engagement.

In 2024, UPH’s Service Learning Community (SLC) conducted Mari Sehat 2024 in Kelurahan Bencongan Indah, Tangerang, with the theme “Bergandengan Erat, Wujudkan Hidup Sehat.” The program promoted healthy living through group exercise (Senam Sehat), health seminars on stunting prevention and nutrition, and an MPASI (complementary feeding) workshop for mothers. The initiative successfully increased community awareness of nutrition and hygiene, with participants reporting improved knowledge and motivation toward healthy family practices.

UPH also implemented the Holistic Care Collaboration for Refugees in Jabodetabek, an interdisciplinary outreach involving the Faculties of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Psychology. The program served over 165 refugees and disadvantaged individuals through free medical consultations, health screenings, psychological assessments, and health education on hygiene, nutrition, and chronic disease prevention. Supported by Live Global, the initiative adopted a holistic care model integrating physical, mental, and spiritual health, empowering vulnerable populations while providing students with hands-on experience in community health promotion.

Together, these initiatives demonstrate UPH’s sustained effort to enhance health awareness, accessibility, and well-being among local and displaced communities through education, service, and compassionate care.

Shared Sports Facilities

In addition to the soccer field, UPH provides access to basketball courts, outdoor multi-purpose areas, UPH gym, swimming pool, badminton court, and other sports facilities that are accessible to the public and are frequently utilized for joint tournaments, charity matches, and outreach events. The basketball court is also used by the local basketball club (Eagles Academy) every Sunday. These spaces have hosted everything from casual community exercise programs to inter-school sports days, reinforcing UPH’s role as a hub for both education and holistic community development.

At Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH), sports are more than just campus activities; they are a bridge that connects the university with the surrounding community. With this spirit, UPH opens several of its sports facilities to the public, ensuring that the benefits of its infrastructure can be enjoyed not only by students but also by local residents, general public, schools, and youth groups.

The UPH Soccer Field is one of the most popular facilities widely used by the community. Open free of charge, it has become a lively gathering place where neighborhood children, teenagers, and even local amateur clubs come together to train, play, and compete in friendly matches. On weekends, it is common to see local school teams practicing soccer, flag football, and frisbee, side by side with UPH students, creating an atmosphere of inclusivity, teamwork, and shared passion for the game.

By opening its doors through sports, UPH not only promotes healthier lifestyles but also strengthens social bonds, empowers youth, and nurtures a sense of belonging between the university and the public. These shared facilities stand as a testament to UPH’s belief that education and community well-being go hand in hand.
