UPH Maternity Policy
Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) demonstrates its commitment to gender equality and family-friendly employment practices through formal provisions governing maternity and paternity leave. These provisions are established in the UPH Foundation Company Regulations 2023–2025 as well as the Circular Letter No. 244A/R-UPH/VIII/2022 on Employee Rights, which apply across the educational institutions and university entities managed by Yayasan Universitas Pelita Harapan.
Key provisions of UPH’s maternity and family-related leave policy include:
- Three-month paid maternity leave: Under Article 22 (Maternity Leave), female employees are entitled to three months of paid maternity leave, consisting of 1.5 months before childbirth and 1.5 months after childbirth.
- Support following pregnancy loss: Female employees who experience a miscarriage are entitled to 1.5 months of leave, or a period determined based on a medical certificate issued by an obstetrician or midwife. (Art. 22)
- Extension when medically necessary: Maternity leave may be extended when the employee’s condition presents a health risk, supported by a medical certificate. In such circumstances, provisions governing salary during sick leave apply. (Art. 22)
- Clear administrative provisions: Employees requesting maternity leave must submit supporting documentation at least 10 working days before the leave begins. The regulations also specify how maternity leave interacts with Foundation and academic holidays. (Art. 22)
- Paid paternity leave: Under Article 23, male employees receive two days of paid leave when their wives give birth or experience a miscarriage, enabling them to accompany and support their spouses.
- Protection of employee leave rights: These provisions are reinforced by Circular Letter No. 244A/R-UPH/VIII/2022 on Employee Rights at Universitas Pelita Harapan, which emphasises the protection and fulfilment of employee rights and requires employees’ leave entitlements to be exercised in accordance with applicable provisions and employee needs.
Through these provisions, UPH provides a formal framework supporting employees during pregnancy, childbirth, pregnancy loss, and early family responsibilities. The combination of paid maternity and paternity leave, medically supported extensions, and institutional protection of employee leave rights demonstrates UPH’s commitment to a supportive, equitable, and family-friendly working environment.
